The modern history of Islam changed considerably at the end of WW I with the end of the Ottoman Empire.  In 1925 Ataturk, founder of modern Turkey, was successful in taking Turkey to secularism which ended the last Islamic state.  In ending the state religion he was trying to modernize and bring western commerce to Turkey.  Dorrie went on to explain the origin of Shariah Law and how it is related to the Qur'an and other Islamic texts.

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in 1928 and is related to most of modern Muslim organizations.  She explained these inter-connections with a slide showing the many linkages between organizations and people.  Next, the activities of these organization in the United States was covered including the activities of the Holy Land Foundation here in Texas.

She ended her talk and answered about a dozen questions from the audience.  After the talk Dorrie O'Brien stay to talk with our members show some of the many books about the subject that she brought for people to look through.
