Sponsored by

Candidates for United States Senate:
Lela Pittenger   http://www.lelaforsenate.com/
Glenn Addison   http://www.glennaddison.com/
    Craig James   http://texansforcraigjames.com/

Ted Cruz,        Lela Pittenger,        Glenn Addison,        Craig James,        Tom Leppert

BACKGROUND AND LEGISLATIVE APPROACH:

In addition to your qualifications  and motivation please give us an idea how you would approach the legislative process.    Which senators do you admire or look to for leadership on issues of interest, why?  What committees and caucuses would you join.  Tell us 2 or 3 senators you have communicated with the most as you've prepared for this race.
How will you maximize your effectiveness in the Senate in the face of obstructionist opposition?

ECONOMY AND BUDGET

JOBSOur security and strength depend on a vibrant, growing Economy.
The House Republican Study Committee has written the Job Through Growth Act which cuts regulations, makes the tax code simpler, flatter and fairer, and expands our energy policy….all aimed at more American jobs.

Joan van Vliet welcomes Tom Leppert.

1. What do you like about the Job Through Growth Act?

2. What changes should be made to our tax code?

3. Will you vote to suspend new regulations, roll back regulations on small business, and require Congressional approval on “major” regulations (e.g. the Reins Act)?

Ted Cruz explains his approach
4. In the face of tremendous opposition how will you work to expand domestic energy?  (curtailing frivolous litigation, unlocking both on and offshore areas, extend current leases, approve pipelines e.g. Keystone?)
5. What other areas should be addressed to stimulate jobs?

BUDGET—Three years with NO budget put us $15T in debt with no end in sight.
SPENDING—Congress must be forced to cut spending.  The Cut, Cap, and Balance Act passed in the House.
Glenn Addison emphasises his conservative
principles with a pocket Constitution.

  1. What parts of this bill do you favor?  What parts need improvement and how would you propose those improvements?

2. The Debt Limit has been raised repeatedly.  Is there any way to put real teeth in that limit?

ENTITLEMENTSLong term entitlement liabilities will break any budget.
Craig James explains his small business experience.
1. Are Federal Entitlements constitutional?  Given that in their current form Entitlements are unsustainable, what can the Senate do about them?

The Affordable Care Act is set to destroy American medicine and bankrupt our country.

  2. How can we repeal it without getting stuck with some of the provisions that have already been implemented?

BAILOUTS—government has chosen which losers get to avoid bankruptcy.
This creates a moral hazard we all pay for.

Tom Leppert comments on Bailouts.

1. Are their situations in which you’d favor Bailouts?  If so, under what circumstances?

NATIONAL SECURITY—Must be based on clear objectives in our national interest.  In the face of external threats we have established doctrines (e.g.  A nation that harbors terrorists is equally guilty and subject to attack.)

Ted Cruz in the midst of an empassioned
speech it told to wind it up.

1. In the face of limited resources should the U.S. change it's policy of direct foreign aid and overseas bases?  If so, how?
2.  Nuclear Threat— emerging nuclear states, including Iran, North Korea and Pakistan, all states with terrorist links, present an unpredictable threat.    What should be our approach to these threats?

IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT
The federal government has failed to enforce our immigration laws.
  1. What steps would you take to reform immigration and border security?

Joan van Vliet thanks Lela Pettinger
and Glenn Addison

The Forum drew Republicans from all over Collin County.
Angela Tucker candidate for District-199 Judge;
Fred Moses, County Chairman;
Tincy Miller candidate for State Board of Education
 CLOSING STATEMENT
1. Why should we vote for you?
