Speaker:  Stephen Munisteri, Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas

Steve Munisteri was elected Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas on June 13, 2010 at the Republican State Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to being elected as Chairman of the RPT, Munisteri was very active in Republican and conservative politics. He began working as a volunteer in Republican campaigns in 1972. His first campaign activity was as a block walker for Hank Grover. Since 1972 Munisteri has worked in over 70 campaigns including working for Presidential candidates in Iowa, California, New Hampshire, Florida, and South Carolina. Munisteri has also been active in the Party since an early age serving as precinct chair of two precincts in Harris County (133 and 213), from 1981-1987. He was also a member of the State Republican Executive Committee from 1984-1986. Munisteri became very active in the conservative movement having first formed a conservative club at Memorial High School in Houston before going on to become the State Chairman of Texas Young American’s for Freedom (YAF) from 1977-1980, a member of the National YAF board, founding Chairman of the Young Conservatives of Texas, and State Chair of Young Texans for Reagan during the 1980 presidential campaign.   More

July 2013 Chairman’s Update

This update will be shorter than most updates because for the first time since I started running for State Chairman in Fall 2009, I had an opportunity to take 13 consecutive days off to take a vacation and travel around Europe. Nevertheless, while I was away the RPT staff continued to move forward with our preparations for the 2014 election cycle. As we recently announced, as a result of grants from the Republican National Committee, the RPT will be operating year round Victory centers for the first time as opposed to our Victory centers in the past that would open a few months before the election then shut down immediately afterwards. Victory centers are responsible for voter registration, identification, persuasion, and turnout. Establishing these centers early allows us to focus our efforts on independent and swing voters, as well as new residents to the state well in advance of the election.  More
